Please help my 4th, 5th, 6th Grade child read

The Usual Suspects

Children this age already have good skills but they do not know how to put their skills into action on the page. And, their comprehension skills are usually wobbly.

The first lesson in the Usual Suspects book walks your child through a very clear method for connecting to comprehension as well as putting those other skills right to work. This method is practiced again and again in the reading passages provided in the book. The reading passages are woven between work with the tricky components all children stumble over: ce, ci, cy, ge, gi, gy, silent and spoken gh, gn, and others. Word endings ous, eous, ious, tion, cian, cion, tian, tious, cious, tience, cience, and so on are also targeted for practice. You and your child will love the Usual Suspects.

I'm Mary Maisner, and I have experience teaching reading as both a teacher and a tutor. While completing my masters in teaching, I devised an incredibly effective method to help students learn how to read. I put together this site to share my teaching method with you. It's called the Zoom Reading Strategy.
